Harlan F. Tjaden

Harlan Frederick Tjaden, 72, of Cambridge, MD, passed away on September 23, 2023 in Easton Md. He was born on November 10, 1950, in Salisbury, MD, to the late Fred Albert Tjaden and Martha May Douglass Tjaden.

Harlan grew up on his family farm in East New Market, MD, and graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1968. He dedicated his career as a maintenance employee at the Rescue Fire Company in Cambridge, MD, until his retirement. Harlan was also a long-time member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and actively participated in the 4-H community.

Harlan was a selfless and caring individual who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed hosting cookouts, playing solitaire, and helping out at other fire departments during their breakfast and dinner events. His dedication to serving others extended beyond his career, as he was an active member of the Cambridge Rescue Fire Department throughout his life.

In his free time, Harlan cherished moments with his loved ones and his four-legged friend, Saki. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 10 years, Vanessa George, and his stepchildren, Alyssa Miller and Kevin George. Harlan also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Donna Dawson of Wingate, MD, sisters-in-law Autumn Dawson of Cambridge, Md. and Michelle Lyons of Harmony Md., brother-in-law Michael Dawson of Baltimore, Md., nieces Allie Wilson and Anna Abbott of Cambridge, a cousin, Nancy "Thomas" Bradford of East New Market, and special friends Bernie Berggrun of Wingate, Md. and Jo Wilson of Cambridge.

Harlan is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Albert Tjaden and Martha May Douglass.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023, at 1 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, Md. with Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Following the service, Harlan will be laid to rest at East New Market Cemetery.
