Harold Lloyd Abbott, 83 of Cambridge, MD, beloved husband, loving father, brother, and friend passed peacefully to begin his eternal life with his savior Jesus Christ on February 8, 2012 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. He was born December 23, 1928 in Robbins, MD, son of William Parks and Lorraine Abbott.
He attended schools in Dorchester County and resided in Robbins with his family as a youth and left to serve his country as an Army paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles and later as a proud United States Marine until January of 1954. Living in Cambridge, Maryland following his military discharge he worked for Phillips Packing Company in Cambridge, later as a carpenter for Robbins and Robbins Construction, and retired from Cambridge Wire Cloth in 1991 after 30 years of dedicated employment.
He was an avid hunter and sportsman who loved spending endless hours in the woods hunting and training his beagles. His passion was attending flea markets and auctions where he could be found most any Wednesday or Saturday morning. He loved most anything dealing with the water.
In 1950 he married his loving wife of 61 years, Beverly Joan Neal. They resided in Cambridge where they raised their surviving three children, Daniel Lloyd, Jody Harold and Shelley Suzanne Abbott.
Surviving him also are his sisters and brothers, Betty Hastings ( Ray), Mae Fitzhugh , Lottie King (Ray), Joy Hohlbein, Loretta Dibble, Shirley Hicks, Marie Dryden, Harvey (Beaver) Abbott Sr., Mary Diane Jones ( Jimmy) and Wylie E. Abbott (Beverly) all of Cambridge, Carolyn Simmons and Parks Abbott Jr. of Toddville, Barbara Jean Willey (Carl) of Wingate, James (Fuzzy) Abbott of Manchester, TN, two grandsons Sean and Kyle Abbott, two step- grandchildren Lauren Wright and Andrea McDorman, three great- grandchildren Darren, Gavin and Isabella and numerous nieces and nephews. His brother William Parks Jr., sisters Ramona Lankford and Darlene Kimble and granddaughter Michal Abbott have preceded him in death.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening February 15th from 6-8 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, Md. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Beulah, Maryland with Rev. Ray Rogers officiating with military honors. Family and friends are invited to attend a social gathering at Hurlock American Legion following the service.
