Harry "Beaner" Andrews

Harry "Beaner" Andrews, 78 of Cambridge, passed away at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Wednesday March 4, 2009. He was born in Cambridge on January 28, 1931, and was a son of the late Walter "Beaner" and Mary Robinson Andrews.

He attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1948. He served in the US Navy from 1949 until 1950 and was called back during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until 1954 and served aboard the USS Coral Sea. He worked at Craig's Drug Store and later worked at Dorchester General Hospital for 25 years in Material Management. On June 12, 1955 he was married to the former Betty Dean. He was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church, 50 year member of Dorchester Post # 91 Legion, Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 VFW and was also a member of Cambridge Lodge No. 1272 B.P.O.E. and was also a member of the Cambridge Yacht Club. Mr. Andrews enjoyed bowling, traveling, watching football games, and also enjoyed spending time in Florida as well as Ocean City. He was stricken suddenly on Monday, and was taken to the Memorial Hospital at Easton where he passed away on Wednesday morning.

Survivors include his wife Betty Dean Andrews of Cambridge, three sisters Jeanne Roesch and her husband Walter of Rockville, Mary Lou Harding and her husband William Harding of Cambridge and Barbara Wise of Mesa, Arizona, a sister in law Ruth Ann Andrews of Salisbury and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Aris Ann Johnson and one brother Walter R. Andrews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with the Rev. Samuel H. McWilliams officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of Zion United Methodist Church, 612 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613, the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to a favorite charity. Pallbearers will be Ronald Andrews, Stuart Brittingham, Mark Meekins, Allen Hoge, Chuck Booze, Jackie Bowers and Timothy Wise. Honorary bearers will be Dewey Meekins, Leslie Booze, Dickie Lowry, Fred Phillips, Gary Shockley and Jamie Insley.
