Harry M. Short, 71, of Secretary passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Cambridge on September 22, 1944 and was a son of the late Thomas Short and Bessie Wilkerson Short.
Harry attended schools in Dorchester County. He worked at Dorchester County Roads Board as a heavy equipment operator and also at E.S. Hubbert and Son. Harry enjoyed tinkering with anything that had a motor, fishing, and take country rides. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, AARP, Farm Bureau, Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Company, and Secretary Volunteer Fire Company, and a former member of the Cambridge Jaycee's.
He is survived by a daughter Rena Brooks and husband Robert of Cambridge, two grandchildren Katelyn Brooks and Robert Brooks, Jr., a foster son Ronald Jenkins and wife Bernie of Stevens City, VA, two sisters Barbara Hurley of Salem and Virginia Tolley and husband David of East New Market, a brother George Short of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Harry is preceded in death by three daughters Anna Short, Vicky Short and Kathy Jo Short, a son John Short, two brothers Roger Short, Sr. and William Short, Sr., four sisters Anna Short, Carolyn Short, Mary Wiggins and Nora Myers, two brothers in law Lawrence Knauer and Edward Hurley and a sister in law Lorraine Short and a close family friend Linda Short.
Pallbearers will be Billy Short, Wesley Short, Jody Hughes, Jr., Kenny Mowbray, Brian Tolley and Ron Jenkins.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Mr. David Tolley officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12 to 2. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Katelyn Brooks College Fund, 207 Willis Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
