Harry E. Stephens, Jr

Harry E. Stephens, Jr., 83 of Cambridge, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center on Friday, April 29, 2011. He was born in Cambridge on March 23, 1928, and was a son of the late Harry E. and Albina Price Stephens, Sr.

Harry attended schools in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High school in 1946. Some years ago he had worked at Mills Dairy in Cambridge. He later worked at the Peninsula Service Bureau in Salisbury, and had also worked at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge for several years. For the past 25 tears Harry was well known for the produce stand he operated at the market at the Corner of Washington Street and Peachblossom Avenue in Cambridge. Harry was an Exempt Member of Rescue Fire Co. Inc, and had received a Governor's Citation for 25 years of service. He had been in failing health for several weeks, and was a patient at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge where he passed away on Friday morning.

Survivors include two daughters Kathy S. Brooks and her husband Bill Brooks of Cambridge and Amy S. Meekins and her husband Richard W. Meekins of Cambridge, three grandchildren R. Matthew Meekins of Cambridge, Patrick M. Brooks of Columbia and Susannah L. Brooks of Cambridge, one brother William L. Stephens and his wife Clara Mae Stephens of East New Market, several nieces and nephews and two very close friends Jose Cruz and Robert Kane.. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Walter H. Stephens.

A graveside service will be held on Monday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the East New Market Cemetery with the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Rescue Fire Co. Inc., P.O. Box 776, Cambridge, MD 21613. Contributions will be used for Fire Prevention, providing free smoke detectors for distribution. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
