Hazel E. McWilliams, 90, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born in Cambridge on March 19, 1921 and was a daughter of the late Walter D. and Nettie Warfield Jones.
Mrs. McWilliams attended schools in Cambridge. On June 4, 1966 she married Raymond W. McWilliams. He passed away on January 2, 1985. Some years ago she had worked for Phillips Packing Co. For about 20 years she had worked at Rob Roy and later at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for over 20 years until she retired in 1983. She enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking and crocheting. She was well known for her eagerness to help people. Mrs. McWilliams was a faithful member of Jubilee Christian Fellowship Church.
She is survived by two sisters Mary Ann Moore of Cambridge and Shirley Smith of New Castle, DE, three sisters in law Catherine "Kitty" Jones of Cambridge, Gladys McWilliams of Cambridge and Marie Price of Bear, DE. She is also survived by Raymond's daughter Pat Abbott and grandson Steve Abbott. In addition to her numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, she is survived by her caregivers at Chesapeake Woods Center. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. McWilliams is preceded in death by two sisters Betty Mae Harmon and Mildred Spedden and two brothers William Jones and Howard Jones.
Pallbearers will be her nephews Ray Jones, Walter Jones, Allen Jones, Gary Jones, Jim Smith, Wally Spedden, Don Harmon and Jim Harmon.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 3 p.m. at East New Market Cemetery with Rev. George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Hazel's name to Jubilee Christian Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 202, Cambridge, MD 21613.
