Helen L. Davis, 85, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at her son and daughter in laws home, Steve & Julia Davis. She was born on March 12, 1930 in Shiloh, MD and was a daughter of the late Charles Wellington Lord, Sr. and Harriett Foster Lord.
She graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1947. She married Robert Davis on June 28, 1952. Upon graduating from the top of her class from Goldey-Beacom School of Business in Wilmington, DE, she held executive secretarial positions at DuPont's in Wilmington. Mrs. Davis was the backbone... playing a silent role as office manager, payroll mgr, a/r & a/p mgr & business mgr for Bob the entire time they owned Stevens Smith clothing store while raising two sons and keeping an impeccable home. She was the epitome of the "Proverbs 31" wife... humble, submissive and subservient to her husband's desires and needs... she was one of the greatest mothers that ever lived. She was an avid athlete, former golfer, champion bowler and few knew of her high school days when she was voted the best basketball player on the state championship team. She was actively playing bridge twice a week with her large circuit of friends. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge. Helen painted both pictures and furniture. She had flair for home decorating and often took on renovations by herself. She was an avid traveler and became enamored with England and its royalty. She was the equivalent of a gourmet chef & baker... she was most known by everyone for her gracious and elegant dinner parties among close friends and family. We will all miss her wheeling out that two-tier dessert cart with no less than 5 different unbelievable desserts... her orange russe cake brought crowds.... she made the most unbelievable thin-crispy butter cookies every Christmas... she hoarded empty cookie tins to be sure that everyone received a tin - long & far... some begged for just a meal of her cheese biscuits... but everyone knew Helen Davis as one of the most popular girls from school days til? death... and everyone knows why... she had the most high spirited pleasant and joyful personality that everyone craved... add in the best sense of humor and a huge appetite for it... she was always happy, positive and ready for a ride on a rollercoaster... what an amazing lady.... what an amazing life.
She is survived by her husband Robert Davis of Cambridge, son Robert Davis, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Willard’s, MD, grandsons Josh Davis and William Davis and granddaughter Mardelle Davis all of Wicomico County, son Stephen Davis and wife Julia of Cambridge and grandson Michael Davis and wife Heloisa of Rockville, MD. Helen was the youngest and last surviving sibling of 8 children. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Williams Lord, Catherine English, Laura Wooten, Charles Lord, Jr., Marlin Lord, Harold Lord, and Kenneth Lord. Helen maintained best-friend relations with her niece Bonnie McCall.
