Henrietta F. Dayton, 90, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at her home with her family by her side. She was born in Stevensville on October 21, 1925 and was a daughter of the late John William Fox and Catherine Grimes Fox.
Mrs. Dayton attended schools in Denton. On July 4, 1947, she married Edwin Lee Dayton, who passed away on February 4, 1994. She was employed with Rob Roy Shirt Factory for 20 years. In 1968, Mrs. Dayton owned and operated Dayton’s at the Point Restaurant until she retired in 2007. She enjoyed Bingo. Mrs. Dayton was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Dorchester Unit 91.
She is survived by a daughter Phyllis Creighton and husband Teddy of Cambridge, a son Edwin L. Dayton, Jr. and special friend Brenda Faust of Cambridge, a daughter in law Lillian Lee Dayton, six grandchildren Edwin L. Dayton III, Mary Catherine Sears, Frances Lee Dayton, Lynn Creighton, Billy Elliott and Davis Elliott, Jr., numerous great grandchildren, four sisters Elizabeth Collins, Ernestine Bloodsworth (Curtis), Mary Jane Meekins, and Patricia Travers (Petey), and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by three brothers Clarence H. Fox, Samuel Fox and John Fox, three sisters Grace McGee, Loretta Perry and Jean Ross.
Pallbearers will be Edwin L. Dayton III, Jacob Dayton, Garry Brohawn, Jr., Shane Satterfield, Daniel Smack and Scott Fitzhugh.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 11:30 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with Rev. Paul Dorman officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 4 to 6 pm and from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Monday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O.
