Herman S. "Sid" Johnson, Jr

Herman S. "Sid" Johnson, Jr., 88, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on November 6, 1924 and was a son of the late Herman S. Johnson, Sr. and Nannie Spedden Johnson.

Sid attended schools in Cambridge. On January 9, 1943, he married the former Beverly Marshall. He was owner/operator of Sid Johnson Boat & Transportation Company, Inc. Sid was an avid boat racer and enjoyed building race boat engines. Most of his boats were named Beverly Ann and the Country Boy. Sid was a member of the Cambridge Lodge #1272 B.P.O.E. ELKS, Cambridge Moose Lodge, APBA and Chateau Community Church. He played the banjo in the band called Local Band.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Johnson of Cambridge, a brother Kenny Johnson and wife Linda of Cambridge, a sister Marydel Russell of Pasadena, several nieces and nephews and his special caregivers Amy Brockson and Patricia Windsor. Besides his parents, Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by four brothers Phillip Johnson, Sarge Johnson, Sr., Calvert "Skeeter" Johnson and Joe Johnson, sister Virginia Frase and twin sisters Estelle LeCompte and Louise North.

Pallbearers will be Sarge Johnson, Jr., Kenny Johnson, Kenny McDonald, Wayne Brockson, Lou Fehsenfeld and Herman Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Coates, Donald Cannon and Bobby Brooks.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Larry Wroten officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Chateau Community Church, c/o Nancy Coates, 3981 Ocean Gateway, Linkwood, MD 21835.
