Hubert F. Brohawn

Hubert F. Brohawn, 89, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Vienna on May 26, 1923 and was a son of the late Robert and Estella Mae Foxwell Brohawn.

He attended public schools in Vienna and Cambridge. On December 7, 1944 he married the former Shirley Mowbray, who passed away on May 4, 1996. Mr. Brohawn served in the U.S. Navy (Sea Bees) from 1945 to 1946, stationed in the Pacific, Pearl Harbor and Guam. He was employed by Wise Oil and later with Dorchester County Roads Board and retiring in 1985. Most of his life he lived in Cambridge, but from 1967 to 1985 he lived in Madison before moving to Cambridge. He was known for his produce stand at Roslyn Ave. Mr. Brohawn was a member of Cambridge Wesleyan Church where he served as secretary and treasurer of the Men's Bible Class. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 91, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW and past president and former member of the Madison Volunteer Fire Company.

Pallbearers will be Wendell Meekins, Mike Rossy, Ricky Rossy, Tom Mills, Gene Harper and Tawes Harper, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be William Harper, John Rue, Norman Mills, Howard Brohawn Ray Brohawn and Wayne Brohawn.

He is survived by three sons Hubert F. Brohawn, Jr. and wife Anne of Davis, N.C., Garry L. Brohawn and wife Carole of Cambridge and Steven L. Brohawn and wife Barbie of Cambridge, six grandchildren Hubert F. Brohawn III, Garry L. Brohawn, Jr., Stevie Brohawn, Nick Brohawn, Amy Howard and Kim Brohawn, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Brohawn is preceded in death by four brothers Charles Brohawn, Robert Brohawn, Jr., James Brohawn and Howard V. Brohawn and three sisters Louise Brohawn Murphy, Irene Brohawn Willey and Marion Brohawn Mills.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Jack Diehl officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
