Hubert H. Wright IV

Hubert Harris Wright, IV, 83, of Cambridge, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on February 24, 2025, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Hubert was born on February 13, 1942, in Salisbury, Maryland, to Hubert Harris and Jeanne Winterbottom Wright. He graduated from The Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, in 1960, and after high school, received an appointment to the US Naval Academy. Hubert graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1964 with a degree in engineering, and during his time in active duty, served as an admiral’s aide and completed a tour in Vietnam. Following his military service, Hugh embarked on his professional journey as an attorney. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law, and upon graduation, returned to the Eastern Shore, where he built a successful law practice.

Sailing, photography, and community service were threads that ran true throughout Hubert’s life and career. An avid sailor, Hubert helped run many of the Admiral Byrd Regattas, as well as the Governor Hicks Log Canoe Races. He was also a dedicated supporter of the youth sailing programs at the Cambridge Yacht Club. Hubert was a talented photographer, and throughout his life, he took great care to document every significant family moment. His dedication to preserving these memories is something for which his family will always be grateful. His passion for photography and love for his hometown also inspired his work on one of his proudest accomplishments, the completion of Cambridge Past & Present. The publication, which he co-authored, included many photographs from his personal collection and commemorated Cambridge’s bicentennial.

Hubert was an active member of The Rotary Club of Cambridge and served the club in a variety of capacities, including treasurer of the Scholarship Fund. He was also an active member of the Dorchester County Historical Society and volunteered for CASA of the Mid-Shore, serving as an advocate for children in need.

Hubert leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Terry Hanson; daughter, Julie McClernan and husband Ryan; son, Jeffrey Wright and wife Amy; grandchildren, Tyler Wright, Haley Wright, Gavin McClernan, and Finn McClernan; and sister Jeannie Purdon. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Donald Wright.

Memorial services will be private. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
