Iona Amelia Rhea Wilcox

Iona Amelia Rhea Wilcox, 100 of Cassons Neck, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Friday, August 21, 2009. She was born at Cassons Neck on August 14, 1909, and was a daughter of the late Robert and Amanda Hubbard Rhea.
She attended schools at Hudson. On September 18, 1929 she was married to Oden W. Wilcox. Mr. Wilcox passed away in 1980. Mrs. Wilcox was a member of Spedden United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years and was an original member of the True Blue Class of Spedden Church. For 55 years Mrs. Wilcox had taken care of the flowers at Spedden Church and had also worked in the Memorial Garden. She was a member of the Homemaker's Club and enjoyed quilting, scrap booking, keeping her daily journal cooking and gardening. Mrs. Wilcox was well known for distributing her gifts of sweet potato pies and biscuits. She had been a resident at the Chesapeake Woods Center since January of 2008 where she passed away on Friday afternoon.
Survivors include two daughters Irene Thomas and her husband Dick Thomas of Cassons Neck and Audrey Sammons and her husband Jack Sammons of Cambridge. She is also survived by six grandchildren Lisa Neild, Patricia Hallowell, Richard Thomas, Michael Thomas, Jennifer Edgar and Theresa Langrall, 13 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers Russell Rhea and John Rhea and three sisters Sadie Wroten, Emma Rosetta and Goldie Beckwith.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM at Spedden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. Interment will follow at Spedden Seward Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, and on Tuesday afternoon during the hour preceding the service at Spedden United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Thomas Neild, Thomas Hallowell, Logan Hallowell, Guy Edgar III and Guy Edgar IV.
