J. Donald Hubbard, 85, of Secretary passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Cambridge on February 16, 1929 and was a son of the late John G. and Edith Mowbray Hubbard.
He attended schools in Cambridge. Mr. Hubbard served in the Army National Guard and then entered the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he received three bronze stars and a purple heart. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during peace time. On December 14, 1962, he married the former Nora Bandy. After his service for our country, Donald worked as a seaman and first mate sailing the Great Lakes. He was an electrician and a member of the IBEW Local #24 in Baltimore until he retired in the 90's. After his retirement, Mr. Hubbard started a part time painting business. He enjoyed boxing, watching sports, and playing pool. He was a member of the Choptank Memorial Post #7460 VFW.
He is survived by his wife Nora A. Hubbard of Secretary, two children, a son David A. Hubbard of Hurlock and a daughter Kimberly Abbott and her husband Mike Abbott, Jr. of Cambridge, two grandsons Ryan A. Hubbard and Joey L. Hubbard, a granddaughter Sammi Collins, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Hubbard is preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Dave Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
