In the evening hours of January 25, 2025 Jack Allen Perry, 96, of Paw Paw Road Cambridge, left this earth to join his beloved wife Marie whose passing preceded his by several years.
Jack was born on December 23, 1928 to Lonnie L. and Blanche Storm Perry who raised their family on a farm in the tiny town of Soldier’s Delight, Md. Jack completed his education in Baltimore City's School System and selected construction work as his first vocation.
Jack’s career was interrupted when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was assigned a tour of duty during the war in Korea. Among his duties were the building of floating bridges and the cleaning of mines. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to the construction business where he remained until 1986 when he retired from his position as Baltimore City Building Inspection and Construction Superintendent.
In 1960 Jack married Marie A. Hutson who shared his love of nature and water sports and together they built their forever home here on the water. Most of the time they spent together; fishing, crabbing, skeet shooting and traveling.
For the most part, Jack enjoyed working with his hands. He built gifts for his friends like bird houses, feeders, etc. He was proud of the fact that he also built one of his own boats “from scratch”, she was commissioned the MISS FLATBOTTOM in the early 1990’s.
A bit of a renaissance man, Jack was an avid gardener and an accomplished baker often surprising friends and neighbors with steamy apple and lemon pies and coconut cakes for the holidays.
While still able Jack maintained his membership and continued to perform greeter functions at Whitehaven Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents and his wife Marie, Jack was preceded in death by both of his siblings Mary Ellen Perry Givner and Lonnie Robert Perry.
He is survived by his niece Mary Anne Perry Zenger of Towson, Md., grand nephew Jack Andrew Zenger of Salem Mass., and nephew James Lockard of Lyon, France.
Jack’s remains will be interred with his wife Marie in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, Md. In keeping with his wishes, any services will be private.
