James F. Carpenter, 93, of Cambridge passed away on January 29, 2017, at the Talbot Hospice. Mr. Carpenter was born in Lewes, DE on November 13, 1923 and was the son of the late Edward J. and Ella Blizzard Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter graduated from Lewes High School in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he served during World War II. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during the war. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and embarked upon a post secondary education. Mr. Carpenter attended and graduated from Goldey Beacom Business College, he also attended and graduated from the Franklin School of Arts and Sciences in Philadelphia.
Mr. Carpenter moved to Cambridge, Maryland where he became employed at the Cambridge Maryland Hospital as an X-ray Technologist for twenty years. Mr. Carpenter was then employed at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for twenty years. Mr. Carpenter was an avid golfer and sailor, he enjoyed camping and traveling. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cambridge, the American Legion Post 91, and the Eastern Shore Sailing Association.
He is survived by his wife Joy T. Carpenter of Cambridge whom he married in 1952, a son John E. "Jack" Carpenter of Bethesda, Maryland, two daughters Jane Bowers and husband John of Hurlock JoAnne Kelly and fiancée Tom Johnson of Georgetown, Massachusetts, three grandchildren Rebecca Bowers, Erica Bowers, and Aidan Kelly, two nephews Gary Williams and Glen Williams, grand niece Susan Bennett and several other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Carpenter is preceded in death by two sisters Thelma Williams and Mary Carpenter.
Pallbearers will be John Bowers, Charles Thomas, Tom Johnson, Gary Williams, Wallace Willon, Phillip McKelvey, and Wayne Potter.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge with Pastor Steve Trice officiating. Interment will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery on Monday. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to either the First Baptist Church, 501 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613, Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive Easton, MD 21601. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
