James E. Slacum, Sr.

James E. Slacum, Sr., 92, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Candle Light Cove in Easton. He was born in Cambridge on September 25, 1932 and was a son of the late George W. and Nettie Lowe Slacum. 

Mr. Slacum attended schools in Cambridge. On October 27, 1951, he married the former L. Ann Messick who passed away on December 12, 2022. He was employed at Cambridge Wire Cloth for 43 1/2 years. Mr. Slacum enjoyed rabbit hunting and gardening. He was a life member of Rescue Fire Company, American Legion Post 91 and Choptank Memorial Post 7460.

He is survived by a son David Slacum and wife Sharon and their daughter Catherine Villari and husband Michael and their children Emilia and Bradley, a grandson Eddie Slacum and his children Christopher Crouch and Sierra Slacum, a granddaughter Becky Slacum, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Slacum is preceded in death by a son James Edward Slacum, Jr. and a sister Georgia Wheatley.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Slacum, Christopher Crouch, Michael Villari, Gerard Johnson, Shane Bloodsworth and Troy Handy.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 1pm at Dorchester Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Open Bible Church, 1619 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
