James W. Foxwell, Sr., 88, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born on August 31, 1924 in Cambridge to the late Waldon H. and Pearl Hurley Foxwell.
Mr. Foxwell attended school in Cambridge. He joined the United States Navy in April 1943, where he served as a diesel mechanic and machinist. He was aboard the U.S.S. LST 178 during the Normandy Invasion. He was honorably discharged in April 1946. In 1947 he married the late Onolin Willey, who passed away in 1998. In 1956 he left Eastern Shore State Hospital and was employed at Rob Roy. Later he sold life insurance and in 1970 he returned to the Eastern Shore State Hospital where he retired in 1983. Then on November 22, 2002 he married the late Elise Willey Smith, who passed away in 2007.
Mr. Foxwell is survived by a brother Robert "Bob" Foxwell and his wife Bonnie of Easton, a sister in law Shirley Foxwell of Cambridge, a son James Foxwell, Jr. of Virginia, a step daughter Toni Higgins and husband Ed of Culpepper, VA, two step sons Dennis Smith and wife Linda of Snow Hill, and Gary Smith and wife Pat of Cambridge. Besides his parents and his first and second wives, he is preceded in death by two brothers Charles E. Foxwell, Sr., A. Wayne Foxwell and a son Steven Foxwell.
Mr. Foxwell's wishes were to have no services. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., in Cambridge.
