James Henry McCready, Sr.

James H. McCready, Sr., 84, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Cambridge on August 31, 1930 and was a son of the late James W. McCready and Dorothy Stewart McCready.

He graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1949 Mr. McCready served in U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. On August 7, 1952, he married the former Shirley Cheesman, who passed away on December 5, 2014.  He was a bricklayer with Allen Tyler and Son and later with his son McCready Masonry Inc. He enjoyed crabbing, making wine, and gardening. He was a member of the American Legion Post 91 and the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW.

He is survived by two children Jim McCready, Jr. and wife Ann of Rhodesdale and Pam Abbott and husband Wylie of Elliotts Island, six grandchildren Brad McCready, Dr. Robert McCready, Lauren Walker, Brittany McCready, Jason Abbott and Kristin Abbott, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. McCready is preceded in death by a son Robert Bruce McCready and a granddaughter Janie Rebecca Abbott.

Pallbearers will be Jason Abbott, David Lewis, Brad McCready, Les Booze, Bobby McClain and Norval Pritchett, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Dave Stewart and Mr. McCready’s Dr. Robert McCready officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, c/o Sherry Wood, P.O. Box 95, East New Market, MD 21631.
