James A. "Jim" McDowell

June 15, 1924 — March 29, 2014

James A. “Jim” McDowell, 89, of Easton passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at UMSMC at Easton. He was born in North East, MD on June 15, 1924 and was a son of the late Harvey and Bertha McDowell.

Jim graduated from Mount Zion High School in Maryland. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942-1946. On July 23, 1955 , Jim married Cordie Mae McDowell, who passed away on January 2, 1997. He was a construction worker for a while and later was employed with the Chrysler plant in Newark, DE. He enjoyed gardening, trains, model trains, fishing, country and bluegrass music. Jim was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 1183 and the Calvary Assembly of God in Dover. He also attended The Church of the Nazarene in Cambridge.

He is survived by two daughters Brenda S. Hart and husband Lee Hart of Newark, DE and Patricia A. Lewis and husband Earl "Jay" Lewis, Jr. of Easton, two grandson Robert Eachus and Earl Lewis, III, several great grandchildren, a sister Mary Emma McDowell of Elkton, MD and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. McDowell is preceded in death by a grandson George Eachus, seven brothers H. Francis McDowell, George Alan McDowell, Joseph Vincent McDowell, John Paul McDowell, William Edward McDowell, Philip Everett McDowell and Charles Ross McDowell.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 11a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor’s Richard and Sharon Prahl officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A committal service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover, DE. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Church of the Nazarene, 97 Sandy Hill Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
