James P. “Jimmy” Raymond, 78, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on September 22, 1936 and was a son of the late Clarence G. and Blanche Pattison Raymond.
He attended schools in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1955. On January 8, 1961 he was married to the former Sandra Phillips. As a teenager he was a member of the American Legion Drum & Bugle Corps. In 1954, Jim went to work at the Colonial Store when it opened in Cambridge. He worked for the Colonial Store, which became Big Star for 28 years. After Big Star closed, he went to work for the City of Cambridge at the Wastewater Treatment plant for 16 years. He had also worked with Thomas Funeral Home. Jim was an exempt member of Rescue Fire Co. Inc., after serving for 26 years, where he had been Captain of the Ambulance Corps. for a number of years, Chief for six years, 1st Asst. Chief for six years, Vice President, and had been Chairman of Fire Prevention for 22 years. Jim was a member of Grace United Methodist Church since about 1950 where he had been President of the Baraca Class, President of the Usher’s Union, and had also served as an usher for over 40 years. Jim enjoyed following football and baseball as well as reading.
Survivors include his wife Sandra P. Raymond of Cambridge, two daughters Jennifer K. Raymond and fiance'e William J. Greene of Cambridge, and Jamie D. Raymond- Willey and her husband Eric P. Willey, Sr. of Church Creek, two grandchildren Eric P. Willey, Jr. and Samantha J. Raymond, two nieces Lena Wallis Fitzhugh and husband James and Donna Engle and husband Andy, in laws George Phillips and wife Judy, Liz Elliott and husband Keith and Samuel Phillips, Jr. and wife Patty and several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother J. Schyuler Raymond and a sister Lavenia Brooks.
Pallbearers will be Bill Wallace, Bobby Willey, Tommy Hall, Bobby Windsor, Walt Travers and George Phillips.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
