James R. Salisbury, 71, of Hurlock passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He was born in Rossie, NY and was a son of the late Truman F. and Jane Butler Salisbury.
He graduated from Hammond High School in Hammond, NY. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On December 16, 1978, he married the former Pauline Ball, who passed away on December 20, 2012. He was a restaurant owner in the 1980's, but most of his life, he was a truck driver for Tri-Gas & Oil. Mr. Salisbury was a NASCAR fan and an avid Dale Earnhardt fan. He also enjoyed collecting coins. He was a life member of the Cambridge Moose Lodge 1211, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, American Legion Post 91, American Legion Post 243 and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by a son James T. Salisbury and wife Jessica of Newark, NY, two daughters Janel Salisbury and husband Bryan Van Steenburgh of Fulton, NY and Phyllis A. Lewis of Hurlock, 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, three sisters Janet Rae Steeves of Gray, ME, Joyce Ann Baker of Lewiston, ME and Jari Avis Robbins and husband Lindy of Cambridge, an aunt Patricia Knight of Hammond, NY, a brother in law Weldon Weir, Jr. of Dansville, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Salisbury is preceded in death by a daughter Tina Weir.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev.'s David Wooten, Jr. and Sam Brisco, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center, c/o the Stroke Center, 100 E. Carroll St., Salisbury, MD 21801.
