James R. "Ricky" Towers, Jr., 53, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He was born in Cambridge on May 11, 1960 and was a son of the late James R. Towers, Sr. and Virginia Cox Towers.
Ricky graduated from Cambridge South Dorchester High School class of 1978. He was employed with Big Mario's in Cambridge and later moved to Miami Beach, Florida until his health started to fail and moved back to Cambridge. He enjoyed gardening, crabbing, and being with his family and friends. He was a member of the Men's Auxiliary of the VFW.
He is survived by a daughter Ashley Viens of Massachusetts, and a son Jonathan Towers of Cambridge, three grandchildren Korey and Madison Towers and Cameron Viens, a brother A. Troy Morris of Cambridge, two sisters Vicki Towers of Taylors Island and Debbie Elliott of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Ricky is also survived by a lifelong friend Caroll Tyler of Fishing Creek, special friends Michael Wheatley, Lara Hurtado and her two children Morgan and Charlie.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 to help with funeral cost.
