James E Wagner, 74, of Bishops Head passed away on Friday, April 28th at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury with his wife, children, and grandchildren at his side. Jim was born in Baltimore on April 8th, 1949 to Richard and Grace Wagner.
Jim enlisted in the Coast Guard before graduating high school and continued a long career in the Recreational Boating industry. He was a skilled craftsman, boat carpenter, rigger, electrician and built numerous boats throughout his career. He worked on the rigging team of the schooner “Pride of Baltimore.” In 1984, Jim and his family moved to Woolford, MD. He worked at Dickerson Boat Builders in Trappe, MD, and later became general manager of Bachelor Point Yacht Co in Oxford, MD.
In 2003 Jim retired to Bishops Head where he and his sons built a home with the help of local friends. Jim subcontracted work part time during retirement for Composite Yacht in Trappe, MD, Elzey Boats in Cambridge, MD and Yacht Maintenance in Cambridge, MD. In retirement Jim enjoyed sailing, gardening, wood working, and served as a volunteer EMT for the Lakes and Straits fire house and volunteered building the Chicone Village Longhouse at Handsell in Vienna, MD.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Allison Wagner, two sons Josh Wagner (Julie) of East New Market, Eric Wagner (partner Sherie Munday) of Cambridge, and 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Wagner, Madalyn Wagner, Selene Wagner, and Anna Wagner. He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Ronald Wagner.
