James “Jim” C. Kubista, 81, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Owatonna, Minnesota on February 10, 1935 and was a son of the late Charles and Emma Kubista.
Jim graduated from Owatonna High School class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army. On October 8, 1960, he married the former Dorothy Morrison. Jim worked at Western Publishing with 44 years of service. After retirement, he began working at Preston Ford and at the time of his passing, he was employed for NAPA Auto Parts in Cambridge. He enjoyed fishing, the beach, traveling, NASCAR, college basketball, a Washington Redskins fan, photography and loved his family. Jim was a member of St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, Cambridge Elks, American Legion Post #91, Grand National Waterfowl, and a past member of the Cambridge Yacht Club where he was a Past Commodore.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy “Dot” Kubista of Cambridge, two daughters Kim Jones and husband Bill of Cambridge, Mary Ann Elliott and husband Mark of Vienna, three granddaughters Shelby Elliott, Taylor Elliott and Harley Jones, a sister Maggie Brocker of Minnesota and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jim is preceded in death by two nephews.
Pallbearers will Mark Elliott, Bill Jones, Norman Bell, Clifford Collison, TJ Thompson, Dennis Farina II and Josh Trice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10 am at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church with Father William Lawler officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
