Jane G. Salisbury, 88 of Cambridge, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Friday, February 4, 2011. She was born in Edwards, New York on February 10, 1922 and was a daughter of the late Ben Gooden and Ruth Leota Typhair Butler.
She was raised in the Hammond Rossie area of New York, and had attended schools in St. Lawrence County. Some years ago she had worked as a waitress in the Alexandria Bay area. On October 11, 1939 she was married to Truman F. Salisbury. He passed away on July 31, 2002. They moved to Cambridge in November of 1983. She was a member of Pisgah Chapter # 164 in Evans Mills, New York, Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 VFW Auxiliary and Dorchester Post # 91 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo and playing scrabble. Mrs. Salisbury had been a resident at Chesapeake woods in Cambridge since May of 2004 where she passed away on Friday morning.
Survivors include a son James R. Salisbury and his wife Pauline Salisbury, of Cambridge, three daughters Janet Rae Steeves of and her husband Gerald Steeves Gray, Maine, Joyce Ann Baker of Lewiston, Maine, Jari Avis Robbins and her husband Lindy Robbins of Cambridge, twelve grandchildren, numerous great grand children and great great grandchildren, 1 brother Gerald B. Butler of Central Square, New York, one sister Patricia A. Knight of Rossie, New York and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three sisters Florence Butler, Inze Hicks and Jean Manning, two brothers Frank Butler and twin Charles Butler, a son in law Keith Baker a grandson a niece and a nephew.
A funeral service will be held on Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. David Wooten officiating. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Interment will take place at the East New Market Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 209C Milford Street, Salisbury, MD 21804.
