Jay R. Phillips, 64, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on August 18, 1950 and was a son of Frances Burton Phillips and the late Russell Phillips.
Jay graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1969. On June 7, 1986, he married the former Sharon Laabs. He had worked with Airpax as a material planner with 40 years of service. Jay enjoyed listening to bluegrass music. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, trustee, on the building fund as treasurer, helping youth groups with activities and helped build the church.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Phillips of Cambridge, his mother Frances Phillips of Cambridge, three brothers James "Ronnie" Phillips and wife Susan of Cambridge, Russell "Rusty" Phillips and wife Sherri of East New Market, Terry Phillips and wife Cathy of Cambridge, an aunt Lorraine Short of Cambridge, step children Barbara of Wisconsin, Brenda of Wisconsin, Bridget of Florida, Bruce of California and Bart Pantzloff of Cambridge, 13 step grandchildren, eleven step great grandchildren, three nieces, two nephews and a step nephew and a step niece. Jay is also survived by his best buddy Precious. Besides his father, Jay is preceded in death by a sister in law Debbie Phillips and a niece Amy Phillips.
A celebration of Jay's life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge with Pastor Steve Trice and Rev. Brent Coleman officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church, 501 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613 and to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733 Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
