Jean MacFarlane Becker died peacefully at her home in Gainesville, Virginia, on September 3, 2012, after a brief illness. She was born to Henry Dudley and Donna Roberta Westenberg MacFarlane on August 11, 1924, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She grew up in Northfield, Illinois and attended Miami University of Ohio.
She married William Bain Becker in 1944. After WWII, the Beckers moved to the DC area, where they lived, for 40 years, and raised their 4 children in Vienna, Virginia. They moved to Oxford, Maryland in 1981 and 19 years later moved to their current home in Gainesville, Virginia.
Mrs. Becker enjoyed her home and her friends. She dedicated her life to raising and supporting her family. She opened her home to guests of all walks of life and nationalities. She was an active and devoted member of her church and several charitable organizations, including P.E.O. She enjoyed travel, the seashore, antiques, decorating and home design, entertaining, and family history. She was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Washington Redskins and whatever team her children or grandchildren favored.
On September 8, 2010, Mr. Becker passed away. She will be greatly missed by her children Bain White and husband Curt, Alan Becker and wife Beverly, Donna Storey, Nancy Czarny and husband Julian; her eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at St. Paul's Church, 225 Morris Street, Oxford, Maryland; followed by a private burial at Oxford Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Oxford Kids Camp, P.O. Box 294, Oxford, MD, 21654 or "Beat the Odds" through the Prince William County Bar Foundation, 12610 Lake Ridge Drive, Lake Ridge, VA, 22192. Please indicate the donation is in memory of Jean M. Becker. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD.
