Jeannette Virginia Brannock, 88 of Madison passed away on Wednesday February 25, 2009 at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge. She was born at Madison on August 14, 1920 and was a daughter of the late Charles and Amy Wroten Brittingham.
Her stepfather was Ernest Christopher, Sr. On July 6, 1940 she married Preston A. Brannock who died on March 25, 1990. She retired from Dorchester General Hospital in 1982 after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Joppa United Methodist Church in Madison, Madison Volunteer Fire Company Women's Auxiliary, VFW, and Local and National Chapters of AARP. She was a regular visitor of the Delmarva Community Center. She will be remembered with loving thoughts for her gentle spirit and her beautiful smile. She had been a resident of Chesapeake Woods Center since August 2008.
She leaves behind those most dear to her as family; sister Laura Bromwell; nieces and nephews Nettie and Thomas Hastings, Linthia and Danny Mills, Charles Amos Bromwell, III , Robert Bromwell, Jr. and Dodie, Lisa Abbott, whom she helped raise, her husband Ricky and their son Bobby. Her cousin Bobby Aaron, his wife Peggy and their children Robin, Lori and Penny; their cousin Ricky Smith, her caregiver/companion who was by her side, Crystal Johnson.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Preston A. Brannock, Jr., husband Preston A. Brannock, step brother Ernest Christopher, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, cousins Helen and George Aaron, Maurice Wroten, Clarence and Hilda Keene, Nelson Brittingham, and Marie Mills.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Jerry Wade officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Thomas Hastings, Charles Amos Bromwell, III, Robert Louis Bromwell, Jr. Charles Moore, Sammy Hughes, Jay Newcomb, Ricky Smith, Anthony Hughes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Aaron, Sammy Horseman, David Horseman, David Frazier, Dr. Edmund MacLaughlin, Dr. R. Bruce Helmly and Dr. Michael Moran.
