Jeffery O. Hurley, Sr.

Jeffery O. Hurley, Sr., 68, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on September 12, 1956 and was a son of the late Jesse B. Hurley, Jr. and Joan “Buttercup” Murphy Hurley.

Mr. Hurley graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1974 and he also attended NC State. He was co-owner and operator of Jess Jr. and Son's. Mr. Hurley was a life member of Rescue Fire Company where he served actively for 32 years, with 16 years as chief. He was involved in the Maryland Fire Chief Association, Dorchester County Fireman's Association, Maryland State Firemen's Association. And was in Eastern Shore Volunteer Firemen's Association Hall of Fame, Delmarva Firemen's Association Hall of Fame, and Dorchester County Volunteer Firemen's Association Hall of Fame. He was also active in Towing Recovery Professional of Maryland where he had served as past president, Commodore of the Cambridge Yacht Club, and Cambridge Rotary Club, and was an Eagle Scout with Scout Troop 128.

He is survived by a son Jeffery O. Hurley, Jr. and wife Sarah of Cambridge, bonus sons Joshua Bauguess and Kayla, and Noah Bauguess and Deanna, a brother Jed M. Hurley, Sr. and wife Brenda of Cambridge, a nephew Jed “J.R.” Hurley, Jr. and wife Abbie and a niece Amanda Jo Hurley Hallowell and husband Logan, 3 great nieces and great nephew; Abriella Hallowell, Leilani Hallowell, Jed M. Hurley III and Maddie Hurley, 3 God children Brandon Hall of Hollywood, MD, JR Moore and Maddie Fleming. Besides his parents, Mr. Hurley is preceded in death by a daughter Jessica Anne Hurley and a brother Jay L. Hurley.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Hurley, Jr, J.R. Hurley, Ricky Travers, Sr, Martin Pepper, Hubert Meekins, Rick Travers, Jr., Luther Ruark, Jr, and Tommy Insley. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Phillips, Edward Kinnamon, Ed James, Vinny Flook, Dustin Miles, Doug Todd, Bert Weber, Herb Moore, Mark Murphy, Matt Meekins, Adam Pritchett, Andrew McCarter, Brad Walters, Randy Travers, Ryan Travers, Matt Lewis, Ronnie Milligan, and Ray Moore.

A fireman’s funeral will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 12pm at Rescue Fire Company, 8 Washington Street, Cambridge, Md. with Rev. Gary Hickman officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 10am to 12pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the International Tow and Recovery Museum Building Fund in memory of Jeffery O. Hurley, Sr., 3315 Board Street, Chattanooga, TN 37408, Rescue Fire Company, and the Rescue Fire Company Train Garden. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
