Jennings C. “JC” Tolley, 72, of Wingate passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Cambridge on January 23, 1943 and was a son of the late Calvert Brice and Kathryn Todd Tolley of Toddville.
He was raised in Toddville and attended South Dorchester High School and graduated from Bullis School, Silver Spring, MD in 1962. He was appointed to the United States Naval Academy and attended until he decided to return home to operate the family seafood processing business. He was the former President of Meredith & Meredith, Inc.
He was recognized in the Mid-Atlantic States for sourcing crabs and oysters for processing and sales of locally produced seafood in the North East. He promoted the economic interests of local watermen and local employees. He was active in the Chesapeake Bay Seafood Industries Association. He had donated photos and relics from the earlier production years that are on display in the St. Michael Maritime Museum and the Annapolis Maritime Museum.
He was an avid fisherman and waterfowl hunter, especially with his Uncle Hobart Tolley.
He was a member of Cambridge Lodge 66 AF&AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest No. 115, and Boumi Shriners in Baltimore.
He is survived by his wife Priscilla Tolley of Cambridge, three children Kathy Elzey and husband Levin Elzey, Jr. of Hurlock, Tod Tolley and wife Robin of Toddville and Morgan Tolley and wife Katie of Cambridge, four grandchildren Kyle Elzey, Kristen Elzey, Joshua Tolley and Drew E. Tolley, two brothers Andrew Tolley and wife Wanda of Woolford and Mark Tolley and wife Sheryl of Lansdale, PA, nieces Mila Tolley, Shannon Adkins and Sara Tolley. Beside his parents, Mr. Tolley is preceded in death by a nephew Drew A. Tolley.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Old Trinity Churchyard with Mr. David Tolley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N.
