Jewell Bennett Pitts, 75, of Linkwood, passed away on December 6, 2011 at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She was born in Atlanta, DE on May 25, 1936 and was a daughter of the late Ray and Nettie Venable Bennett.
She attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1954. On September 3, 1960 she married Laurence Pitts. Mrs. Pitts worked at Airpax in Cambridge for 22 years and later worked as a switchboard operator at the Hyatt Regency. She enjoyed reading, traveling, puzzles, swimming, her cats and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Laurence Pitts of Cambridge, two sons Jeffery L. Pitts and wife Lori of Salisbury and Michael A. Pitts and wife Evonne of Toms River, NJ and three grandchildren Samuel Pitts, Lilly Pitts, Jonathan Pitts, a nephew Steven Patrick of Duluth, MN and a cousin Sharon McGrath of Hurlock. Besides her parents, Mrs. Pitts is preceded in death by a sister Juanita Patrick and a niece Marti Patrick.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Tim Merki officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
