On February 9, 2015, J. Howard Twilley, 68, died after a long battle with cancer, the son of the late William Howard Twilley and the late Rosina Brocato Twilley. He attended schools in Cambridge and graduated in 1964 from Cambridge High School.
He attended three years at the University of Maryland in College Park, majoring in government and then attended the University of Baltimore for one year majoring in business/finance.
While attending college, he worked with the Maryland State Marine Police part-time and became interested in a law enforcement career. He graduated from the Marine Police Academy in 1971, and was assigned to Leonardtown in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. He was also a member of the Army National Guard and completed Basic and AIT at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
During his career with the Marine Police, he worked the Mid-shore and Lower Shore counties as a captain of a patrol boat and a mobile enforcement team. He retired from the state in 2002.
From 2003-2011, he worked for the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office as a Sheriff’s Deputy at the Circuit Court of Dorchester County.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Church of Cambridge, and a lifetime member of Rescue Fire Company. He was also a member of The Fraternal Order of Police and the Natural Resources Police Alumni.
Howard enjoyed family activities especially a good hand of cards. He spent many days working and relaxing in his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Robin Lankford Twilley, and two sons: Joseph Twilley, Jr. (Beth) of Dubai, UAE and Stephen Twilley (Angie) of Cambridge, and grandchildren, Reston Twilley of Dubai, Nathan and Nora Twilley of Cambridge.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with Rev. Dale Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
