Joan K. Steele

Joan K. Steele, 66 of East New Market, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Friday October 23, 2009. She was born in Cambridge on March 28, 1943, and was a daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Florence Virginia Geib Shenton, Sr.
Joanie attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1961. On November 2, 1968 she was married to Robert F. Steele. She had been a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge since 1951. Joanie enjoyed playing Bingo and collecting salt and pepper shakers as well as beagle figurines, and also enjoyed following Jeff Gordon's racing. She enjoyed watching movies and listening to country music. Joanie had been in failing health for several years and had been a patient at the Mallard Bay Care Center for the past two years and had been admitted to Dorchester General Hospital on Thursday where she passed away on Friday evening.
Survivors include her husband Robert F. Steele of East New Market, one brother C. Edgar Shenton, Jr. of Seaford, two brothers in law William L. Steele, Jr., of Johnsontown, PA and Marvin S. Steele of Georgetown, DE and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 114 Baptist Street, Salisbury, MD 21801-4911. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
