Joan M. Davis, 68, wife of the late George W. Davis, of Delmar, DE, passed away at her home on Nov. 17, 2016. Mrs. Davis had been in failing health for the past six months.
She was born in Cambridge on May 26, 1948, the daughter of the late Ford Franklin McConnell and Novella Tolley Baldwin. She was raised and attended public schools in Cambridge. While residing in Cambridge Joani was employed as a bartender and waitress at several local restaurants. She was also a very active member of the Auxiliary of Choptank Memorial Post 7460. In 1989 she married George W. Davis and moved to Delmar. Mr. Davis passed away on October 31, 2001.
Upon moving to Delmar Joani became very active in the Auxiliary of Delmar Post 8276, V.F.W. and held numerous offices in that organization. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Laurel, DE. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a food service worker in the public school system in Delmar.
She is survived by a daughter, Heather A. Moore of Hurlock, MD, a son Jeffrey W. Phillips of Delmar, DE, a step-daughter Barbara Snyder of Delmar, DE, a step-son Bobby Davis of Florida, two grandchildren, Kristen E. Smith and Bailie R. Dickinson, a niece Jennifer Simmons, several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and one step great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by a brother Douglas T. McConnell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Post 8276 V.F.W. in Delmar, DE on Sunday afternoon, December 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A eulogy will be delivered by The Honorable Patrick Wood. Memorial contributions may be made to Delmar Post 8276 V.F.W., 200 W. State St., Delmar, MD 21875.
