John W. Barnes

John W. Barnes, 62, was born in Cambridge on January 20, 1952 and passed on June 6, 2014 at his home peacefully. His parents were the late Charles Norman Barnes and Margaret E. Fischer.

John had become ill in the last 3 weeks and had been in Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

He attended Cambridge High School, Class of 1970. He was employed as an electrician and HVAC installer for over 40 years. He owned and operated Cool Mountain Aire HVAC for the last 15 years.

In the past John loved hunting especially with his brother, Fred. He has a special friend and neighbor at Deep Creek Lane, Mike Layton. Deep Creek Lake was his favorite place. He said, "it is the friendliest place in the world- people who care about people."

He is survived by his wife, Cheri Barnes of 42 years. They have a beloved godchild, Kendall Harrington and also a godchild, Patrick Hurley. John has one brother, Paul Barnes of Eldorado. There are two special nieces, Margaret Fenaoui and husband, Fassail of Herndon, VA, Laura Barnes and Mark Smith of Sykesville, and her two children, Katelyn and Brianna. He also had a deceased brother, Frederick Eugene Barnes who was a state trooper for many years.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Brian Pritchett, Buddy Pritchett, Guy Edgar, Raymond Warfield, George Doty, and George Richard Doty. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Ambus, Raymond Simmons, and Barry Groves.
