John L. Cook, 77, of Annapolis passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in Annapolis. He was born in Dorchester County on March 25, 1940 and was a son of the late Morrison and Lulu Warfield Cook.
He graduated from Cambridge High School. Mr. Cook served in the U.S. Army Reserve for over twenty years. On November 25, 1964, he married the former Zadith Ruark. He was an engineer for the State of Maryland. Mr. Cook enjoyed traveling and was a boater. He was a member of the Cambridge Moose Lodge 1211 and Annapolis Moose Lodge #296, Cambridge Lodge #1272, B.P.O.E. Elks and Annapolis Lodge #622 B.P.O.E Elks and Cambridge Lodge #66, A.F. & A.M.
He is survived by his wife Zadith V. Cook of Annapolis, a son in law John W. Matthews III of Cambridge, four step granddaughters Beth Matthews of Salisbury, Amy Matthews of Cambridge, Julie Harp and husband Chris of East New Market and Tina Griffith and husband Patrick Homick of Virginia, a step grandson Matthew Griffith, Jr of California, six step great grandchildren Trey Davis, Hannah Harp, Megan Harp and Cian Harp, Brennan Griffith, Patricia Homick II. Besides his parents, Mr. Cook is preceded in death by a brother Harvey Cook two stepchildren Glenn Griffith and G. Diane Matthews.
Pallbearers will be Brennan Griffith, Patrick Homick II, Trey Davis, Richard “Dick” Hurlock, Jeff Ruark and Tom Reinke.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 1 pm at the Maryland Eastern Veterans Cemetery with full military honors with Pastor George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends from 11 to 12 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of their choice.
