John R. Hurley

John R. Hurley, 81, of Cambridge passed away on Friday August 26, 2011 at Manorcare- Dulaney in Towson. He was born in Cambridge on August 28, 1929 and was a son of the late John L. and Viola Richardson Hurley.
Mr. Hurley graduated from Cambridge High School and attended college in Chestertown. He graduated as a LPN from the Eastern Shore State Hospital. On July 3, 1964 he married the former Clara Moore. Mr. Hurley was sent to Spain to a training workshop with the military about smoking and alcohol addiction. He enjoyed making hand bags and leather crafting. He also enjoyed playing different sports. Basketball was his favorite. Mr. Hurley was a member of the Cambridge Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Clara Hurley of Cambridge, a brother Ronald K. Hurley and wife Pat of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park with Rev. George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
