John R. "Rick" Neild, Sr., 61, of Taylors Island passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Washington, DC on February 28, 1952 and was a son of John S. "Pat" Neild, Jr. and Virginia Ann Jones Neild.
Rick graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1970, where he was a member of the Raiders football team and was also in the marching band. He also received his BS Degree from University of Maryland in 1974 and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho. On October 29, 2004, he married the former Teresa MacDonald. He was a Certified Agronomist and was currently employed with Mid Atlantic Seed Company. Rick was past president of Tidewater Farm Club, one of the founders of Dorchester County Shoreline Erosion Group and a member of Milton United Methodist Church, Dorchester County Historical Society and Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Company. He loved his family and their Taylors Island heritage. He was proud to continue the farming tradition started by his grandfather, Stapleforte Neild.
Rick enjoyed hunting with his sons and family, fishing, wine-making experiments with his father and gardening. He and Terry loved spending time in the kitchen together experimenting with the fruits of their gardening efforts.
He is survived by his wife Teresa Neild of Taylors Island, sons John Richard Neild, Jr. of Georgia, Levi Thomas Neild (Mindy Jones) of Cambridge, Charles Neild of Taylors Island, step-son Patrick Mowery (Tiffany)of Cambridge, his parents John "Pat" Neild, Jr. and Virginia Ann Neild of Cambridge, a brother Tom Neild and wife Lisa of Hudson, grandchildren Levi Neild, Jr., Reid Elizabeth Neild, Luke Ryan Neild, Mason Hunter Neild, step-grandchildren Autumn Alexis Mowery and Ethan Patrick Mowery and several nieces and nephews. Rick is preceded in death by a brother William "Bill" Neild, Sr.
Pallbearers will be JR Neild, Levi Neild, Charles Neild, Patrick Mowery, Paul Jackson, Clint Fleming, Tim Mitchell and Harold Travers, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Dr. Robert G. Kirkley officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Episcopal Churchyard in Taylors Island. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
