John F. Peters, 77, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at University of Maryland Shock Trauma. He was born in Tomato, Arkansas on March 27, 1939 and was a son of the late William and May Saunders Peters.
He attended schools in Louisiana and continued on to attend University of Arkansas, where he played as a tightend and a linebacker for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. Mr. Peters was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon moving to Cambridge, he worked at Western Publishing, then Chun King which later became part of Kraft Foods when he retired. On December 14, 1963, he married the former Nancy Todd.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and going to the auction at American Corners. His family was the joy of his life, where he attended his grandchildren’s activities.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Peters, two sons Gregory Peters (Lisa) and Jay Harrington (Nancy), grandchildren Hailee Peters, Will Peters, Todd Harrington (Heather), Joseph Harrington (Katie), Andrew Harrington (Cali), great grandchildren Wyatt, Daniel, Carter and Sarah and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Peters is preceded in death by a brother Gregory D. Peters and a daughter Lynn Harrington.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons Will Peters, Todd Harrington, Joseph Harrington, Andrew Harrington and nephews Philip Spedden and Chuck Todd.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Dale Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
