John A. Raickle, Jr

John A. Raickle, Jr., 72, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born in Pennsylvania on September 21, 1942 to Hazel Groce Tolley and the late John A. Raickle, Sr.

Mr. Raickle grew up and attended schools in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated high school, class of 1960. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. John retired as a gunnery sergeant in December of 1980, after 20 years of service which included three tours in Vietnam. He married the former Beverly Gilmore on January 5, 1990. John worked at the photo center in the Cambridge Wal-Mart until his passing. Mr. Raickle enjoyed collecting odds and ends, reading, watching sports, caring for his vegetable garden and spending time with his family and his dachshund, Button.

Besides his mother, John is survived by his wife of almost 25 years Beverly Raickle of Cambridge, a son Timothy Raickle of Cambridge, a daughter Jennifer Wheatley and husband Brian of Cambridge, two step daughters Leeann Mears of Williamsburg, VA and Mary McKenna and husband Tom of Onancock, VA, grandchildren Matheu Raickle, Sean Raickle, and Katie Wheatley, a brother Paul Raickle and wife Nancy of Cambridge, a sister June Bonsall of Philadelphia, PA, nephews David Bonsall, Brian Bonsall, Chris Raickle, Paul Raickle, special cousin Peggy Marple, great nephews John Adam Raickle, III and Jonas Raickle and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 31, P.O.
