John S. Sellars, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Dorchester General Hospital. He was born in Lanham, MD on January 3, 1925 and was a son of the late John Oakley and Clare Congar Sellars.
He was raised on Belvidere Plantation and attended Catholic School in Fredricksburg, VA. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and later entered the U.S. Marine Corps as a cook. On February 16, 1991 he married the former Carol Pliescott. He was a truck driver for Giant Foods for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Teamster Local #639 in Washington, DC.
He is survived by his wife Carol P. Sellars of Cambridge, a daughter Virginia Ann Sellars of Capital Heights, a son John S. Sellars II of Fayetteville, NC, stepchildren Catherine Gullion of Vienna, Brian L. Dodson of Cambridge and Steven W. Dodson of Cambridge, four step grandchildren, a sister Sue Sellnars of Philo, CA, a brother Bill Sellars of Annandale, VA and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Sellars is preceded in death by a daughter Mary McKeever, a brother Phil Sellars and a sister Eva Stepp.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Chapel near Hurlock. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
