John R. Warfield

John R. Warfield, 84 of Hudson, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge. He was born in Dorchester County on March 14, 1926, and was a son of the late George and Cora Marshall Warfield.

Mr. Warfield attended schools in Dorchester Co. On September 4, 1948 he was married to the former Mary Frances Spedden. He served on the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954, and served in Korea during the Korean War. Mr. Warfield worked primarily as a waterman and also worked as a caretaker of a farm (White Construction Co.) at Castle Haven. He was a member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion. Mr. Warfield enjoyed hunting and baseball. He had been in failing health for several years when he passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center on Friday evening.

Survivors include his wife Mary Frances Warfield of Hudson, one sister Evelyn Hubbard of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister in law Della Warfield and two brothers in law Rev. Harold P. Spedden of Wilmington and Maurice F. Spedden of Chester. He was preceded in death three sisters, Florence Thompson, Hazel Condon, Thelma Wittstadt and five brothers Norman Warfield, Medford Warfield, Leonard Warfield, Calvin Warfield and Curtis Warfield

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Calvert Warfield, Ronnie Warfield, Jimmy Condon, George T. Wittstadt, Kenneth Warfield and Raymond Warfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Spedden United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Carolyn Wright, 507 Gay Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Neck District Fire Co., 945 Cooks Point Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
