Johnnie Washington Fitzhugh

Johnnie W. Fitzhugh, 88, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Andrews on December 3, 1927 and was a son of the late Enos W. and Fannie Insley Fitzhugh.

He attended schools and Streets United Methodist Church in Lakesville. At the age of 17, attended Maryland School for the Blind in Baltimore. Some years ago, Mr. Fitzhugh had done some piano tuning, chair caning and he also made wire crab nets. He also taught his nephews how to do chair caning and crab nets. John was a very kind person and anyone who met him was a friend.

He is survived by his sister Louise Prahl of Cambridge, two sister in laws Darlyn Fitzhugh, and Mae Fitzhugh both of Cambridge, numerous nieces and nephews and, three special nephews Keith Turner (Karen), Kirk Turner (Jim) and Kris Turner (Kimberly), two great nieces and a nephew Ryan Turner, Chloe Turner and Macy Turner, a very special niece Faye Armstrong (Howard), a niece Diana Harris and adopted niece Sherri Williams. Besides his parents, Mr. Fitzhugh is preceded in death by two sisters Venie Bailey and Hazel Foxwell, five brothers Clarence, James, Omro, Woodrow and Nolan Fitzhugh, two brothers in law Benjamin Turner and John “Buddy” Prahl.

Pallbearers will be his nephews Kirk Turner, Keith Turner, Kris Turner, Frank Foxwell, Neil Foxwell, and Ryan Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Julian Fitzhugh, Donnie Fitzhugh, Timmy Foxwell, Scott Foxwell, Wayne Foxwell, Jim Loveless, Logan Fitzhugh, Steve Foxwell and Freddie Foxwell.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 1 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Maryland School of the Blind, 3501 Taylor Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21236 or to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
