Joe was born in Salisbury, MD on June 6, 1926. His family moved to Cambridge when he was nine years old. After graduation from Cambridge High School, he attended Peddie, a preparatory school in Hightstown, NJ. Joe went to King's Point Academy and spent over two years in the Merchant Marines in World War II. Upon his return, he attended Washington College and graduated from the University of Maryland.
Joe managed the Feldman furniture stores before they were closed in 1962. He then pursued a career in real estate and later became an insurance broker with his son.
Joe served on the board of his condominium, The Pyramid, in Ocean City for many years. He was also active in local politics while serving on the State Central Committee of the Republican Party. He was a past member of the Cambridge Yacht Club, Cambridge Country Club, American Legion Post #91 and the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and was an avid Raven and Oriole fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Esther Feldman, and his brothers, Irwin and Donald Feldman.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Georgie Levi, a son, G. Philip Feldman and a daughter, Jef Feldman Klein, a daughter-in-law, Marlene K. Feldman, a son-in-law, Gary E. Klein, five grandchildren, Rachel Feldman, Ellen Feldman, Cortney Klein Gurau, Samuel Klein and William Maxwell Klein, and two great grandchildren, Kelin Gurau and Madelyn Klein.
A memorial service and reception will be held at the home of Marlene and Philip Feldman, 1303 Chancellor Point Road; Trappe, MD 21673 on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at noon. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka KS 66675 or www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
