Joseph R. Tydings, III 83, of Easton passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at his home. He was born in Baltimore on October 21, 1930 and was a son of the late Joseph R. Tydings, Jr. and Evelyn Ziegler Tydings.
Mr. Tydings graduated from the Boys Latin School in Baltimore City. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corp from 1948 until 1952. In November of 1950, he married the former Kathryn Hewes. He worked for C&P Telephone Company, where he retired as a supervisor. Mr. Tydings enjoyed fishing and building model boats, some of which are on display at the Richardson Museum in Cambridge. He also assisted in helping to build the Nathan of Dorchester. He served as past president of the Richardson Museum and was a scout master many years ago in Baltimore. Mr. Tydings also was a member of the C&P Telephone Pioneers and the Masonic Lodge of Baltimore.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Tydings of Easton and a daughter Lee Tydings of Baltimore. Besides his parents, Mr. Tydings is preceded in death by a son David R. Tydings.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Baltimore Cemetery in Baltimore, MD. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the James B. Richardson Foundation, 401 High Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
