Joseph R. “Dickie” Insley, Jr., 76, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Madison on February 16, 1939 and was a son of the late Joseph R. Insley, Sr. and Mary Fitzhugh Insley.
Dickie attended schools in Church Creek and Cambridge. On December 14, 1959, he served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany, during the crisis in Germany and was honorably discharged on December 15, 1962. Dickie had worked for Cambridge Tire Center, Frye Memorials, Phillips Oil Company and Wise Oil Company. He loved NASCAR, baseball, wrestling, watching old western movies and going to Delmar to the race track.
He is survived by two sisters Catherine Parker of North Carolina and Brenda Parks and husband Robert of Old Fort, NC, a aunt Ruth Squires of Linkwood and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Dickie is preceded in death by two sisters Carolyn Willey, Joan Lewis, and a uncle Gordon Fitzhugh.
Pallbearers will be David Parks, Bucky Parks, Joshua Jorette, Joseph Gray, Patrick Parker, Mitchell Dayton, Doug Willey and Rick Parker. Honorary pallbearers will Jeff Cusick, Chuck Cusick, Eldridge Willey and Levin Willey.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11 am at Thomas Funeral Home, PA in Cambridge with Pastor Dave Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
