Joseph M. Mowery, Jr., 75, of Fishing Creek passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. He was born in Baltimore on December 21, 1936 and was a son of the late Joseph M. Mowery, Sr. and Dora Zarnowski Mowery.
He attended and graduated from Cambridge High School. In December of 1995, he married the former Joyce Hurley. Mr. Mowery worked has a service writer for several auto mechanic shops. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and the water. Mr. Mowery was a member of the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Mowery of Fishing Creek, a son Joseph M. Mowery III of Cambridge, two daughters Georgette Fox of Somers Point, NJ and Charlotte Elzey of Cambridge, three stepchildren Don Lewis of Cambridge, Stanley Bruce Lewis of Cambridge and Sandi Bellusci of Littlestown, PA, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, a sister Mary Parks of Delmar, MD and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Mowery is preceded in death by a daughter Dianna L. Travers, a son Anthony "Tony" Mowery, a stepson Mark Lewis and a sister Paulette Kundee.
Pallbearers will be Pete Parks, Patrick Parks, Harold Cyr, Jr., Brian Townsend, Don Lewis and Stanley Bruce Lewis. Honorary pallbearer will be Garvin Mowery.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Father William Lawler officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
