Joyce A. Slacum, 72, of East New Market, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at UMSMC at Dorchester. She was born on March 24, 1942 and was a daughter of Wilsie Willey Spedden and the late James W. Spedden.
Mrs. Slacum attended Cambridge High School, where she graduated in 1960. On June 15, 1962, she married Clarence Navy Slacum, who passed away on September 7, 1991. Joyce was employed as an instructor's assistant with the Dorchester County Board of Education, where she retired in 2002. She enjoyed knitting, shopping, and dancing. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 91.
Joyce is survived by two daughters Debbie Webster and husband Greg of Linkwood and Sandy Green and husband Bobby "Bean" of Vienna, her mother Wilsie Spedden of Cambridge, two grandchildren Dalton Green and Landon Green of Vienna, two brothers James Spedden, Jr. of Secretary and Donald Spedden of Cambridge, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her father and husband, Mrs. Slacum is preceded in death by a grandson Cody James Green and a sister Norma Lee Gray.
Pallbearers will be Arnold Staubs, Bobby Green, Greg Webster, James Spedden, Jr., Donnie Spedden, and Joe Willey.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
