Judy B. Whitby, 72 of Robbins, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge. She was born at Robbins on September 13, 1938, and was a daughter of the late Guy Jennings and Emma Reida Slacum Bramble. Judy graduated from South Dorchester High School in 1956. Some years ago she had worked at the Phillips Packing Co. in Cambridge. She later worked at Sears in Cambridge for 21 years. On December 22, 1972 she was married to David L. Whitby. Judy had worked for the Dorchester Department of Social Services as an eligibility worker for 19 years, retiring in October of 2000. In 2003 she went back to work at Social Services part time, and had worked until this past May. Judy was a member of Bounds United Methodist Church and had also been a member of the Church of the Nazarene for many years, where she was secretary and had also played the piano and performed numerous jobs at the church. Judy enjoyed reading and spending time with her granddaughter. She had been in failing health for the past 18 months and had been a patient at the Chesapeake Woods Center for two days when she passed away on Saturday afternoon. Survivors include her husband David L. Whitby of Robbins, one daughter Carol w. Bloodsworth, of Cambridge, one granddaughter Emily S. Bloodsworth, of Cambridge, one sister Catherine Crockett and her husband Dave Crockett of Greenville, North Carolina, one brother D'Arcy Bramble, Sr. and his wife Dolly Bramble of Tunis Mills and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Guy Jennings Bramble, Jr. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Richard K. Prahl officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Whitemarsh Cemetery in Trappe. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Nazarene, 97 Sandy Hill Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be Phil Reed, Richard Cole, Richard Collins, Bill Walker, Byron Baker and William Prahl.
