June L. Johnson, 80, of Denton formerly of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Caroline Nursing and Rehab Center in Denton. She was born in Easton on June 9, 1931 and was a daughter of the late Charles Warrington Garey and M. Irene Cox Garey.
Mrs. Johnson graduated from Easton High School. She worked and retired from Verizon. After she retired, she worked at the Dorchester County YMCA for 10 years. She enjoyed bowling, tennis and was an avid walker. She was married to William M. Johnson who passed away on February 13, 1994. Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Gleaners and sang in the church choir. She was also a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Johnson Tubman and husband Anthony of Easton, a granddaughter Natalee Tubman Wheeler and husband Jesse of St. Michaels, three sisters Evelyn Nadine Platt of Hollywood, FL, Carol Head of Baltimore and Rona Stoll of Federalsburg and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Tubman, Jesse Wheeler, Troy Morris, Senator Richard Colburn, Bobby Stoll and Dan Mangum.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev.'s Fred Bahr and Chris Whetlor officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimers Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, 909 Progress Circle Suite 400, Salisbury, MD 21804 or to a local humane society of one's choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
